Qatar Open: Petra Kvitova beats Garbine Muguruza to win title
Petra Kvitova declared the 22nd WTA title of her profession
Petra Kvitova will return to the world’s leading ten after tape-recording her 13th consecutive triumph by beating Garbine Muguruza to win the Qatar Open.
The Czech 16th seed originated from a set down in Doha to win 3-6 6-3 6-4 for her second title of 2018 after triumphing in St Petersburg two weeks earlier.
Kvitova, 27, is continuing her resurgence following six months out after a knife attack at her home in December 2016.
” It’s a unique sensation to be back,” said the world number 21.
” I remember at some point in 2015 when I was inquired about this; I could not even imagine it.”

Success appeared unlikely after Kvitova lost the very first five games of the match, then quit break points in 3 separate services games in the 2nd set.
Nevertheless, Muguruza might not transform, and Kvitova broke the Spaniard to edge ahead 4-2.
The world number four had opportunities once again in the third set, with three break points in the 4th video game, but might not capitalize and Kvitova took control to claim the title.
It was Kvitova’s fourth win over a top-10 player in Doha today, after triumphs against Caroline Wozniacki, Julia Gorges, and Elina Svitolina.
That was in spite of spending nearly twice as long on the court in Doha as Muguruza, who received a first-round bye and gained from a semi-final walkover after Simona Halep’s withdrawal.
Two-time Wimbledon champ Kvitova will climb 11 locations when the rankings are verified on Monday, while Muguruza will rise one place to third.
